The decision frame

In 2019, fire destroyed the roughly 100-year-old building that had housed The Red Bar. The 0.3-acre County Highway 30A site in Grayton Beach needed to be redeveloped for an approximately 8,000-square-foot restaurant, and photographs and sketches of the previous building were all the owner had to hold onto the form Grayton Beach remembered.

The result

The approximately 8,000-square-foot restaurant was rebuilt after the fire: a replacement structure with a conventional concrete stem-wall and slab foundation, timber-framed walls, and pre-engineered timber roof trusses, together with the civil infrastructure and named permitting work that let the site serve it. The Red Bar stands in Grayton Beach again.
