The decision frame

Two mixed-use residential condominium buildings on the Alys Beach block plan required a structural approach that could deliver post-tension floor systems, cast-in-place archways, and reinforced masonry exterior walls in a single coordinated set for the general contractor.

The result

The general contractor received a single structural package covering foundations, vertical structure, floor systems, and roof over-framing. The design coordinated post-tension floors with cast-in-place architectural elements characteristic of the Alys Beach vocabulary and coastal wind exposure.

Deep soil stabilization was performed by others. The structural mat slab foundations were designed by O'Connell & Associates to bear on that stabilized soil.
How are the floor systems built?
Floor and roof systems are post-tension cable reinforced, with cast-in-place concrete columns supporting them and cast-in-place archways and headers integrated into the vertical structure.
