Concrete Design

Concrete is what most of this coast's multi-family stock is made of, and what most of its restoration work is spent repairing.

What is included
  • Member sizing verified by computer-based load analysis
  • Comprehensive plans and details specific to the project
  • Designed to the current edition of the applicable building codes
  • Construction Observations available through construction

Where it is used

We have designed a large volume of structural concrete for commercial, municipal, and residential structures. Concrete appears in floor systems, walls, outdoor decks, stair systems, and foundations.

Concrete design is most common on our commercial and residential work.

How we design it

We use computer-based analysis software to simulate the loads that act on each structural member, so a member is sized for what the building will actually do to it.

Cover, reinforcement detailing, and joint location decide how a concrete structure ages within a mile of salt water. Our restoration practice is a running record of what happens when those three are treated as afterthoughts.

Through these projects we produce the drawings, documents, and specifications required to complete the work. Each set includes the plans and details specific to that project, designed to the most current edition of the applicable building codes.

Common questions.

Why does concrete cover matter so much on the coast?

Because chloride from salt air drives corrosion of the reinforcement, and the depth of sound concrete over the bar is what governs how long that takes.
